When I think of a good, classic pub lunch, one of my first thoughts is The Pear Tree. It’s nestled along the route between Cleethorpes and Grimsby via Humberston, ideally situated for a quiet, relaxed weekday lunch or a bustling early evening meal.

The Pear Tree has become one of my favourite places for a quick, spontaneous meal, firstly because it’s a simple, good pub with friendly service – you know exactly what you’re getting as soon as you walk in – and secondly, their menu!

The pages are bursting with choices, from burgers and grills to traditional dishes and sharing platters, and the specials board has to be one of the largest I have seen; there is easily around 20 dishes to choose from! Plus, the mains of the menu and the daily specials are all two-for-one; you need to prepare yourself for some serious studying and decision making.

Skipping the starters, we went straight for the main; Dan opted for a classic, a slow-cooked steak and ale pie with chips and peas, and a generous helping of gravy.

While I went for my trusty favourite, the build your own burger. Two crispy chicken fillets with piri piri sauce and montery jack cheese, with chips and coleslaw, naturally. I just love how juicy the chicken is with a nice, light crispy coating, and the piri piri sauce is super zingy. For me, the ideal pub lunch.

And of course, you just have to leave room for dessert. It was another classic for Dan, a rich, creamy New York cheesecake with a scoop of ice cream.

And for me, it was the caramel crunchy sundae, with chocolate, stracciatella and vanilla ice creams, crunchy caramel pieces, chocolate sauce, whipped cream and a flake – what sundae wouldn’t be complete without one?

Oh so good. If you’re craving something indulgent and chocolatey, but nothing too heavy after a big lunch, this is what I’d recommend. Although, as I know from past experiences, the gooey chocolate brownie with golden chocolate pieces and mint truffle torte are just as delicious!

The Pear Tree serves food daily, until 10pm Monday to Saturday and 9pm on Sundays, and you can advantage of the two-for-one offer daily, including the Sunday Roasts. To see the menu for yourself, visit The Pear Tree’s website
