A dark and rainy Saturday afternoon called for some good food, so we ventured into the heart of Cleethorpes for a couple of drinks and a bite to eat at Tale of Two.

Tale of Two is easily one of the resort’s most stylish venues. Formerly known as Riverside, the bar and restaurant was expanded early this year, knocking through to the neighbouring building to double the size of the all new craft bar and first-floor restaurant, adding a new function room to the second floor too, which has incredible views of the seafront (even on a rainy day!).

The result is a bar that is super stylish, light and airy with an impressive display of spirits and gin on the illuminated green wall. Sadly, there were no cocktails for me on this visit, but when I do order a drink or two, it will either be a classic cocktail or a drink from the Dickens-inspired section of the menu.

This visit, however, was reserved for the dishes that so many love, the tapas.

Recently, Tale of Two launched new menus with some of their renowned dishes making their way back into the tapas selection. After what seemed like just minutes after ordering, our chosen five arrived…

I don’t know if it was the rainy weather, but we chose absolute comfort food; patatas bravas (deep-fried potatoes in a tomato salsa), Spanish meatballs in a tomato and basil sauce, garlic mushrooms in a white wine, cream and thyme sauce, haddock goujons served with a garlic and lemon mayonnaise and, amazingly, pigs in blankets!

The pigs were so tasty and flavoursome, and the haddock was both light and crispy. There was so much sauce in the patatas bravas, meatballs and mushrooms, I wish I’d ordered some bread too to soak it all up!

And while it was super filling, I just couldn’t resist this…

A trio of desserts, consisting of a creamy salted caramel brulee with a crispy sugar top…

Rich, soft fudge doughballs…

And a super tangy forest fruit compote.

Absolutely wonderful! And just my type of dessert – sweet and super moreish.

Tapas is served both in the restaurant (after 5pm) and the bar (from 12pm), and you can choose 5 dishes for £20 or 6 for £23.50. For opening times (Tuesday to Sunday) and the full menu, visit the Tale of Two website.
