Last week, Healing Manor Hotel put on a family-friendly event that was incredibly special…

For one day only, the beautiful Victorian-era manor house transformed its Barn and the nearby courtyard into a whimsical wonderland, ready to host a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party in aid of Grimsby, Diana Princess of Wales Hospital’s Neonatal Unit and the grant-wishing charity for sick children, When You Wish Upon A Star.

Outside, children played on the inflatables and bouncy castles, ate ice creams, met the visiting owls and had a go on the games and go-karts…

… as the adults listened to local musicians playing live from the Hotel’s own (dog-friendly!) pub, The Pig & Whistle.

Meanwhile, the Mad Hatter had been busy getting the Barn ready for his Tea Party.

Doesn’t it look incredible? The whole venue was filled with colour, with paper lanterns and fairy lights lining the ceiling and tables decorated with all kinds of goodies and playing cards. Then came the Alice in Wonderland-inspired Afternoon Tea…

Sweet little finger sandwiches were served on slate plates with the most delicious freshly made sausage rolls and scotch quail eggs. For dessert, you could choose from a whole three-tier cake stand of the gooeyest chocolate brownies, giant slices of blue and red Battenburg, jam tarts complete with pastry hearts and, of course, scones with cream and jam. And yes, the Tea was just as tasty as it looks.

It wasn’t long before the Mad Hatter made an appearance followed by Alice, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, who were all entertaining the children and dined with the Top Table. The Mayor of the Borough of North East Lincolnshire, Cllr Christina McGilligan-Fell, also stopped by to enjoy the delights and support the day.

The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party was hosted by Mark and Mollie Brennan, the owners of Healing Manor Hotel, following the care they received after the birth of their son Bertie Brennan – you can read their story in the Grimsby Telegraph. In total, the family fun day raised an absolutely incredible £2,000! And what a way to do it.
