Holton le Clay, a quiet village just outside of Grimsby and Cleethorpes, is home to a wonderful beauty salon, Beauty at the Gate. With three dedicated rooms, BATG (as it has become known locally) is probably the closest thing you will find to a luxury spa in North East Lincolnshire, providing quite a variety of treatments including a selection of facials, body wraps and massages by Elemis.

As you enter the salon, the calming purple shades and distinct spa-like aroma help you to relax in preparation for your treatment. If it is your first visit, you will have a quick form to fill in – but don’t worry, it is all completed on an iPad, very easy. Then, your therapist will take you through to one of the three cosy, mood-lit rooms.

After a quick introduction to your treatment and the products to be used, it is time to begin. For my first visit to Beauty at the Gate, I experienced the Elemis Deep Tissue Back Muscle massage*. My therapist was Keeley; she carefully explained what the treatment would entail and the four options; Stress Away, Spirit Reviver, Muscle Melt and Chakra Balancing, which used Frangipani Monoi Body Oil and Instant Refreshing Gel (this was my choice!)

This particular oil smells lovely, so sweet and fruity.

Elemis has crafted their deep tissue massages to “alleviate high stress levels, ease aching muscles and revive the senses”, whilst using “dynamic blends of essential oils and levels of pressure to target your individual needs.” The 30 minute treatment begins with heat applied to the soles of your feet and a light brushing of your legs, followed by a deep tissue massage of your preferred pressure.

Thanks to a mixture of sitting at a desk and working at the computer daily, regular running and every day chores and stresses, it was the top of my back and shoulder areas that needed a little more attention, and during the massage, I could really feel the tight muscles being worked. Afterwards, I felt absolutely wonderful! No more built-up tension, just calm and serene feelings (I didn’t want to move!)

After you have had a few moments to relax, the girls will give you your own BATG keyring which is your own little loyalty card; bring it with you when you visit to build up your points, which can be used against future treatments and purchases!

This is a very exciting time for Beauty at the Gate; the salon has been named as a finalist in this year’s Professional Beauty Awards! The ceremony take place in London at the end of February, so I’ll be wishing them the best of luck at my next appointment.
