Happy Chocolate Week everybody! If there was ever a perfect excuse to indulge in a sweet, creamy, slightly naughty chocolatey treat, this is it. Grimsby’s newest independent coffee shop, Riverhead Coffee, has just the trick…


… a jar filled to the brim with creamy hot chocolate, topped with whipped cream, mini chocolate buttons, mini marshmallows and a little chocolate finger. The Super Hot Chocolate. 


This little jar of delight is created using a high quality chocolate powder that is mixed with a dash of milk and steam from the coffee machine, ensuring all of that powder is fully melted, leaving no lumps and bumps at the bottom and a super smooth drink all the way through. It is part of Riverhead Coffee‘s range of heart-warming drinks and light lunches perfect for the autumn season, including their own pumpkin spiced latte.


Riverhead Coffee, which is located in Victoria Street, Grimsby, was opened by owner Nic six months ago selling coffee, a range of loose leaf teas, sandwiches and homebaked cakes. This week, the coffee shop has a number of brand new chocolatey treats tried and tested especially for chocolate week – you’ll have to nip in to see what they are for yourself!

In the meantime, you can try some of Nic’s top tips for creating a decadent hot chocolate at home. 

  • Use a good quality hot chocolate, something that is nice and rich but not too sweet.
  • Try syrups to add some flavour, such as salted caramel, mint or hazelnut.
  • Do not forget the toppings!
