In November of last year, a brand new Brewers Fayre opened up in Cleethorpes, alongside the long awaited Premier Inn. It’s located just across the road from the Boating Lake, south of the beach and down the road from Pleasure Island theme park – a pretty handy location. Despite being open for just over six months, I had yet to visit the pub and so, took a trip to take a look at (and of course, try!) the newly launched summer desserts menu.
Luckily, it was a very sunny Sunday when we visited, so the pub itself was quite quiet and we had a lovely view of the land leading up to the Boating Lake.
We ordered lunch first, Lasagne for Dan and a peri-peri ciabatta with a side of chips for me.
The food arrived in no time at all, but sadly, Dan’s lasagne was a little chewy and crunchy at the edges. However, the staff were very helpful and offered to make a whole new dish, but most of it was eaten anyway so that wasn’t necessary. My meal, I am pleased to say, was lovely! Just my kind of pub lunch; the fried chicken pieces had a little kick but weren’t swamped in spicy sauce, the ciabatta was soft and filling, and the Brewers Fayre chips are nothing like I’ve had before! I really enjoyed this lunch.
Then came the desserts. The lovely team at Brewers Fayre provided a voucher for us to sample the puddings, and we certainly had a lot to choose from.
The new dessert menu is quite comprehensive, with sundaes, chocolate cakes, cheesecakes, traditional puddings, tarts and pies on offer. After a bit of deliberation, Dan chose the lemon mallow pie, and it had to be the Oreo Cookie Pie for me.
Just look at that gooey, creamy goodness! The pie crust was rich and crunchy, and the cream was so light. The toffee, however had to be my favourite part, super sweet and chewy – perfect for my sweet tooth! The lemon mallow pie was just as delicious too, with a zingy lemon filling and the sweet, soft mallow meringue; I can imagine this will be a favourite of many in the summer. I think it is safe to say I will be indulging in a dessert at my next visit too!
