On Monday morning, something very exciting was announced… Grimsby is getting it’s very own 10K race!
On 31st July, around 1,000 runners will be taking to the streets of Grimsby for the race, which starts at 10am outside the Town Hall. Participants will pass the lovely homes of Abbey Road and Bargate, run through Scartho and down to New Waltham, before returning along Peaks Parkway to the beautiful People’s Park, where the race will end under an arch in the Park grounds – what a finish line! Luckily, it’s quite a flat route and roads will be closed especially for the event, and the race will be chip-timed too. Once the 10K is over, there will be a Race Village in People’s Park for runners and the local community to enjoy.
North East Lincolnshire Council is co-organising the 10K with Tape2Tape, so you know it is going to be a professional event, and they are working alongside sponsors which includes the renewable energy giant DONG Energy, who have operations based at the Port; it is wonderful to see such a big company giving something back to the area.
Race directors Nicola Clifford and Neil Pattison from Tape2Tape told the local media: “We are absolutely delighted to be given this opportunity by North East Lincolnshire Council to put on a top quality 10km race in Grimsby. The area already has the popular Cleethorpes New Year’s Day 10k and the addition of the DONG Energy Great Grimsby 10k to the race calendar is certain to be a big coup for the area.
“A massive amount of preparation work has already taken place and this means the whole race will take place in safety on totally closed roads. All runners will receive a fabulous technical tee shirt, bespoke event medal and goody bag once they pass underneath the imposing race finish arch on the grass in People’s Park.”
Entries are now open on the Great Grimsby 10K website, and for those who fancy a shorter distance with the family, Grimsby Town FC is sponsoring a Fun Run which will again start at the Town Hall and end in People’s Park.
