Afternoon Tea at The Comfy Duck is always something very special. The Oakland Hall Hotel’s award-winning restaurant is renowned for its inventive menus, taking inspiration from the seasons and its surroundings to create wonderful dishes that are not only delicious but incredibly Instagrammable (just take a look!). In the past, diners have enjoyed the His ‘n’ Hers, French-Inspired and Pink-Inspired Afternoon Teas, and this Summer, the restaurant has embraced the flavours of the Great British coast to create the Seaside Afternoon Tea.
The Comfy Duck team, headed by The Lincolnshire Chef Steven Bennett, wanted to showcase the heritage of the restaurant’s nearby resort of Cleethorpes, saying: “Our Summer Afternoon Tea is inspired by trips to the seaside as a young boy. We’d load up the car with a picnic or we’d be treated to Fish and Chips and Ice Creams, and stuff our faces with freshly made donuts between running around on the beach. Here at The Comfy Duck, our Summer Afternoon Tea has been carefully crafted, giving a nod to all of those nostalgic memories, smells and tastes when visiting the seaside. We’ve given these flavours and memories a modern twist using the locally sourced, seasonal ingredients that we take great pride in serving.”
To start, there’s Lincolnshire Sausage Hot Dogs with fried onions and servings of Mustard and Ketchup.
Followed by Miniature Fish & Chips with Grimsby Haddock, served on shells and ‘newspaper’ with homemade tartar sauce (of course!)
With a light Chicken, Asparagus and Leek Quiche full of filling, Summer Vegetable Broth and a little Potato Dumpling.
And for dessert, five super sweet treats!
Miniature cheesecake with raspberry sauce in a wafer cone
Champagne and Raspberry Jelly with Candy Floss that melts in the mouth and sticks to your teeth (just like it does at the seaside!)
A gooey Fudge Doughnut topped with Popcorn, incredibly indulgent.
And mini Strawberry Milkshake Ice Creams that are so fruity, and rich, creamy seaside chocolate truffles to finish.
The Seaside Afternoon Tea is served with a glass of Fizz with Belvoir Elderflower Cordial, and a choice of Stokes’ Tea or Coffee, and is just £14.95 per person. However, you can choose to upgrade and enjoy a glass of Gardet or Laurent Perrier Champagne instead. Vegetarian and Gluten-Free varieties are available, along with a Children’s Afternoon Tea too!
There is plenty of time to get yourself booked in for the Seaside Afternoon Tea – it will run until 1st October – but it will be taking a little break from 27th June to 10th July to make way for the Wimbledon Afternoon Tea – have a little sneak peek. See more on The Comfy Duck website.
