Nowadays, with all kinds of increasing stresses and daily activities taking their toll both mentally and physically, it feels like caring for your wellbeing is more important than ever. Making time to escape, visiting a place that is calming and allows you to alleviate your worries (even if it is just for an hour) is something we should all probably do more.
Recently, in Stallingborough, a traditional barn and former Montessori school has been transformed into new centre that will allow you to do just that, a place with a complete holistic approach to healthcare.
Helen Quirke and Dr Sally Moorcroft, sisters who between them have over 40 years experience in healthcare and business, have opened Orchard Barn, an integrative health centre. In September, Helen and Dr Moorcroft held an open day for the local community, giving guests an opportunity to experience just some of the classes, treatments and services Orchard Barn has to offer.
Upstairs in the light and cosy treatment rooms, the Barn’s resident therapists, Karen Spackman and Gina Reader, offered Reflexology and Indian Head and Neck Massage tasters. Jayne Stevenson of The Courtyard Beauty Salon also paid a visit to give Hand, Arm and Foot Massages.
In the first floor Studio, guests could sample yoga, pilates and mindfulness classes, as well as practise Alexander Technique, a method of improving posture and increasing awareness of your movements, with Jane Clappison.
Outside, in a marquee especially for the Open Day, Dr Sally Moorcroft gave fascinating talks on Gut Health and Aromatherapy. Dr Moorcroft is a qualified doctor with over 20 years of experience, a medical herbalist with training in homeopathy, medical acupuncture, nutrition, aromatherapy and traditional Chinese medicine. You can arrange appointments with the Doctor via Orchard Barn’s website.
And before you leave, you must take a look at the Barn’s Natural Pharmacy. Here you will find all kinds of supplements, beauty products and cosmetics, cookery books, yoga and pilates clothing and equipment and gifts, as well as food and drink that cater to specific dietary requirements.
You can order gift hampers too, choosing from gluten- and dairy-free foods, books, candles, cosmetics and luxury chocolates (perfect for Christmas!)
Orchard Barn will also be hosting events and workshops, and already has a series of events lined up from now until Christmas. There are some festive workshops to look forward to – Chocolate & Christmas Shopping on 1st December sounds right up my street!
