One of the biggest dates in the county calendar is almost here – the Lincolnshire Show! The 18th and 19th June sees the 130th annual show take place once again at the Lincolnshire Showground, and this year promises to be just as big as ever, with awe-inspiring acts taking the Main Stage, rows upon rows of stalls to browse and the best food the county has to offer.
Firstly, here’s what you need to know:
When: Wednesday 18th June and Thursday 17th June
Where: The Lincolnshire Showground
Price: Adult £22
Child – age 5-16 – £7 (advanced £6)
Family – 2 adults, 3 children – £47
And here’s the basics:
The Food Court is undoubtedly many people’s first destination in the early morning, starting the day with a delicious Lincolnshire sausage bun and a fresh cup of coffee when gates open at 8am. But if you can’t make it there that early, don’t worry as the deliciousness continues throughout the two day event with some of the county’s best chefs and food producers demonstrating live, and many of Lincolnshire’s fine food and drink producers exhibiting their delectable offerings, from meat and fresh vegetables, to cheese and fudge! Those that fancy a cold, refreshing beer can visit the all new beer tent from the owners of the Dambusters Pub in Scampton.
The grounds of the Lincolnshire Showground boasts an abundance of stalls and exhibitors during the Show, with trade stands showcasing clothing, accessories, homeware, gifts, plants and gardening supplies, crafts and toys – there’s a little bit of everything! You will see that many local businesses attend with trade stands so you can find out about the services they have to offer too, as well as many heritage organisations and charities.
The Countryside Area
The Lincolnshire Show is an agricultural show at heart, so of course there will be the Countryside Area, with agricultutral machinery on show, a vintage tractor parade and displays of the county’s best livestock, including the ever popular Sheep Show! This is also the place to watch chainsaw sculptures live, the Cuerden Falconry display and a premier female equestrian display team, Jive Pony. Also at the Lincolnshire Show is the flower show and horticultural tent, featuring beautiful floral displays and bonsai trees.
The Discovery Zone
This is the place to be for the kids. The Discovery Zone is jam-packed with workshops, comedy theatre and fun-filled entertainment provided by Lincoln Inspired, a festival based around books, comedy, art, music and conversation which took part in the city of Lincoln in May. Here you will also find the University of Lincoln’s Crowders Social Media Garden, which won gold at the RHS Chelsea flower show, and Doctor D’s Science Days Workshops.
The Main Ring
For show-stopping entertainment, the Main Ring is where you need to be. The RAF Falcons are headlining the Main Ring; they’ll be free falling into the Showground on both days, jumping from 12,000 feet and providing a fantastic display at speeds of up to 120mph. You can also enjoy many favourites returning for another year, such as the Parade of Hounds and the RAF Waddington Pipes and Drums, as well as acts new to the Show this year.
Jayne Southall, CEO of the Lincolnshire Showground and Lincolnshire Agricultural Society, said: “2014 is going to be a phenomenal Show as we have such a huge range of attractions and activities for the whole family. No matter what age the show offers a jam-packed day out for everyone to see, experience and taste the best of Lincolnshire – be it from entertainers, farmers, producers or retailers.”
